7 Easy Steps to Sacred Silence

By: Rijuta Tooker

Does a Braveheart Global Woman need to justify her longing for sacred silence? We are bombarded with meaningless noises, harried trying to keep up with our daily lives and stressed from dealing with personal worries and anxieties. Do we wonder then, that most of us, secretly and desperately, need to create a space for personal quiet time? Many who have nourished their mind, body and soul with regular periods of silence have found that their lives, their businesses and their relationships were brought to a new level of life experience.

Is this experience of silence difficult to attain? No. Each morning we can deposit silence-treasure in our inner bank account. During the day, as we need to spend some of our treasure, we can withdraw: a little patience in the morning, some perseverance at lunchtime and forgiveness in the afternoon.

Simple steps take us to sacred silence. Begin today, congratulate yourself tomorrow. Take action to transform your life experience in a meaningful way.

1. Set your intention. What do you need today? Would you simply want to experience a little peace? Perhaps you need to get clear on that fascinating project you placed on the back burner two years ago. Writing down your intention helps to make it clear to you.
2. Choose a place. Regularly spend your time of silence in the same place, somewhere that is clean, neat, inspiring and above all, private and quiet. You may enjoy flowers, a candle, an art object or a special chair to sit in. Personalize your space to make it beautiful and uniquely yours.
3. Choose a time. Be specific. ‘6:00 a.m.’ is more fruitful than ‘when I first get up in the morning’. ‘1:00 p.m.’ has more clarity than ‘sometime during my lunch hour.’
4. Begin. Immediately after showering, in the morning and/or evening, after cleaning and refreshing the body, is an excellent time for being still. Sit where you are most comfortable, in a chair or cross-legged on the floor. Keep your spine erect.
* Choose a focal point: candle flame, flower, art object
* Breathe slowly and deeply 3-5 times to relax the body/mind
* Focus gently on an object, eyes half open
* Release all identification with your thoughts
* Relax into a peaceful, thought-free silence for 5 to 10 minutes

5. Continue. Each day try something different, depending upon your specific intention for the day. Are you tired, exhausted? You may need absolute silence. Are too many thoughts crowding your creative mind? Listen to an indoor fountain that you have placed in your sacred space. Do you need something quiet and soothing? Listen to your favorite instrumental music. Listen to Mozart (have you heard of the Mozart effect?).
6. Experiment. Focus on one special word - peace, joy, creativity, expansion, love, abundance. Repeat your word, aloud or silently. Read something inspirational.
7. Pray or Meditate. Now would be an auspicious time to soulfully pray or meditate. Each person can do this in his or her own way (more on this in the future.)

Create your sacred silence in the way that best suits you. It need not be as ‘formal’ as above. Take a walk in the park, in the woods or on the beach. Go to a museum, sit quietly in front of a beautiful painting and enjoy the creativity of a great artist.

Sacred Silence holds the inner space for each Braveheart Global Woman to find her own unique way to connect with her higher Self, her personal greatness and goodness. Please feel free to share your ‘Sacred Silence’ experiences, each one special and perfect. We would love to hear from you.
