A Guide To Tummy Tucks And Nose Jobs

By: Anastasia Phocas

Toning the muscles is a way to firm up loose skin but there is no such thing as a “spot” exercise to lose weight in a specific area of the body. Tightening the loose abdominal skin cannot be achieved by exercise. To date, only Abdominoplasty which is known popularly as tummy tuck accomplishes that.

A tummy tuck removes excess skin from the abdomen and tightens the abdominal muscles.
Abnormal stretching due to laxity results in bulging abdominal muscles and skin. Liposuction surgery removes only the fat whereas this procedure removes skin and fat and tightens the abdominal muscles. Tummy tucks are more extensive than liposuction. The amount of excess skin and the laxity of the muscles in the abdomen determine the extent of this procedure.

The amount of skin to be removed is carefully marked prior to the tummy tuck surgery. This surgery is carried out under general anesthesia. After making an incision in the bikini line, the excess skin is pulled down and removed along with the underlying fatty tissue. The skin is redraped cautiously after the muscles are tightened and using several layers of suture the skin is then closed.

After the excessive loose skin in the lower abdomen is removed, the remaining skin is repositioned, stretched smoothly and tightened. The lower stretch marks are also removed and the upper stretch marks are lowered down. The lower fat roll is either redistributed or removed. The waistline gets accentuated by the tightened and cinched muscles. In rare occasions, liposuction is also used along with a tummy tuck as an adjunct procedure. Concurrent breast enlargement for female patients is performed to avoid additional scars.

Nose job or Rhinoplasty is a procedure to improve the size and shape of the nose to make it harmonious with the rest of the face. Rhinoplasty is done to sculpt the nose surgically and is achieved by contouring the cartilage and bone to give the nose its shape. Breathing problems caused by certain deformities and sinus disorders can also be simultaneously corrected. In seamless rhinoplasty, most incisions are placed inside the nose to make it invisible.

Rhinoplasty is done with local anesthesia and under sedation. Not more than one to two hours are needed for this procedure. By using the “seamless” method, the procedure leaves no external scars and reduces the discomfort to a bare minimum.

To correct the aging nose – drooping of the tip – and to enhance the facial rejuvenation, Rhinoplasty is carried out.

A visible change in the appearance is seen in most patients after Rhinoplasty.
