A Look Inside Sugar Addiction - Halting Chronic Disease

By: Elizabeth Bohorquez, RN, C.Ht

So, what is the difference between a chronic condition and a chronic disease. Is it possible to reverse these? Broad definition of chronic disease are illnesses that are prolonged, do not resolve spontaneously, and are rarely cured completely. Chronic conditions such as irritable bowel or gastric reflux may not be labeled as a chronic disease, but again it is just a matter of words. What's important is that many can be prevented and if one is already present, the outcomes can be improved by reducing the risk factors.

It is vitally important to accept the concept that everything is connected and this is very good news, the reason being that once a person takes full responsibility for the working of the total picture, the outcomes can change dramatically. That is not to say that all diseases will reverse completely, but once a person makes healthy lifestyle changes that include nutrition, stress and emotional management, as well as exercise, the body begins to heal and recovery is on the way. It may be that chronic pain is reduced, blood pressure normalizes, or digestion improves.

Just a word of caution here. If you are reading my books, articles or working with my CD or mp3 programs, please discuss all lifestyle change programs with your physician before starting. You may be taking certain medications that will need monitoring as your blood sugars stabilize. If you are over-weight you will probably begin losing stored fat. If you are under-weight, your body will respond in healthy ways to your improved lifestyle changes. It is not uncommon for certain types of medications to need a dose adjustment. The physician may choose to actually eliminate certain medications as your body begins to respond to these changes.

I suggest that everyone who reads my books, articles or works with my programs keeps an ongoing journal.. The tools in this program will allow you to experience your body messages on very subtle levels. This information can be very valuable for your physician, and the management of your health care. A simple notebook will suffice. I encourage everyone to write a few pages daily, noticing changes not only in the body, but also in their mind state.

My programs present information that may appear very simple on the surface. You might even view it as far too simple for managing any perceived large problems. Make no mistake. The answers to big problems are often very simple indeed. Most answers are subtle, and this is the actual reason for the lack of success. True long term success lies in doing the same simple, subtle things over and over, and then over and over. This is where the tools of persistence and continuity come into play. This book is about developing these powerful assets.

Perhaps you have failed many times at making lifestyle changes. There may be a part of you that doesn't even want to read this book. It may be difficult for you to concentrate, or maybe you are overwhelmed with what you have to do. It may have been years since you felt well. I hear this every day and so you are not alone. This is all too familiar in the world of chronic disease and symptom management.

It is often labeled helpless and hopeless by those who experience it. The problems appear very big and insurmountable, like a large mountain with sides too steep to climb. If you look up this mountain you can see people that are climbing successfully. Those are rock climbers and they have special hooks that they place into the crevices they find. These hooks hold their ropes and allow them to get a footing.

In this work you will be like these rock climbers. The knowledge hooks will help you to move forward one step at a time. You will find hooks for the many aspects of high level nutrition, hooks for managing emotions and thoughts, as well as those for planting goals. Perhaps you, like many others, have been viewing the mountain as a whole, feeling helpless as you stand at the bottom looking up to the summit. The work you will be doing here will take your focus off the helplessness, bringing it to the knowledge hook and the crevice where it is planted.
