A guide to pubs in Murcia City (List One).

By: RussellMarsh

A general guide to bars in Murcia.

Going out in Muria City is a learning experience if you're British. If you like you can do the 'Brit' thing (Go out at 8.00p.m. and be back home by 12.00 the worse for
wear) it's more interesting to try to be 'continental' in Murcia. Most places in Murcia don't liven up until around 12.00a.m. so you'll miss out on most of the amosphere if that's the way you choose to go.

Here's a tip: To do justice to your night out in Murcia adjust your body timer to a Spanish night out by simply changing your watch by a couple of hours. Don't even think of going to a "proper" Murcia bar before 11pm. Earlier on, if you want to be around the place why not have a coffee in Plaza Cardenal Belluga (next to the Cathedral) and admire the beautiful Cathedral. from the terrace. Then you could stroll to the Hotel Rincon de pepe (Apostoles, 34) for a liqueur in the "La Muralla" cocktail bar, one of the few places in Murcia where you can see Murcia's original Arab Walls.

Here 's a list of some of the bars in Murcia.

Mestizo (14 Doctor Fleming.) Cool friendly café during the day but in the evenings it becomes a lively bar. riotous atmosphere later as opposed to relaxed earlier..

B12 (17 Calle Trinidade.) A nice place but doesn't get going until later. Nice place to grab an early drink to start the evening.

Itaca (7 Calle Mariano Vergara. Tel. 968 934 922) Again this is near the university. Quite an unusual bar in that it's both bar and a bookshop. Frequented by local students having coffee during the daytime, the mood then changes in the evening as a more mature crowd come in to sample the cocktails. Mojitos is the most requested drink.

Guanábana Jam (6 Plaza Cerámica.) A new club with stage and bars primarilly showing Blues, Soul and live Jazz. Tuesdays and Wednesdays it's open till 1.30, whilst on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays carry on later till 3....

Zanzibar (3 Calle Andres Baquero.) This is a small bustling small bar where you can get just about every kind of drink you care to mention. Inside you'll find people relaxing with anything from a harvey wallbanger to a milkshake. Happy hour is on Wednesdays from 9-11pm where the old two for one applies.

La Bulla (Calle Montijo.) One of several Cuban style bars in Murcia serving mainly cocktails. Stays open till 3am.

El Albergue (19 Calle Vara de Rey.) This place is open until 3, serves cocktails and has real music on Tuesdays. It's popular with the younger crowd and it gets packed at the weekend. Bar Warhol (25 Calle Victorio.) Cool place for those into Pop Art with copies of the Velvet Underground mentor's
pictures on most walls. A fairly cool gaff that's nice for a quiet drink and a chat. One of the coolest bars in Murcia.

Drexco (26 Trapería.) Nice place near Murcia's Cathedral for non alcoholic drinks and coffee. They claim to have the biggest choice of coffee in Murcia with beans from all over the world. Open 'til 1.00am with chilled out music and atmosphere.

Josepe (9 Arquitecto Emilio Piñero.) A nice tapas bar that stays open all day long. There are lots of nostalgic past paintings and photographs of Murcia on the walls. Try a pan con tomate and a sherry in the early evening for a change before your meal. The first bar in Murcia I call in..

Icaro (Plaza Beato A Hibermón.) Situated near Murcia University, in an area which is a lively student scene during term time. Again Icaro is a good place for an early evening drink.

El Bolo (29 Calle Vara del Rey.) Well chilled bar in the Old Town right in the middle of the party zone. There are live gigs on Tuesdays and also cocktail offers on Fridays and Saturdays. A good bar to start your evening, then return for a drink later chill out.

That should be enough for article 1 on bars in Murcia City. There's a few to go at anyway.. Should you go to any other Murcia pubs that you think deserve a mention then get in touch and let me have details. Cheers!!
