What is Adapalene and for what Adapalene is used?

Adapalene medication belong to Retinoid class.

Adapalene may normalize the differentiation of follicular epithelial cells, resulting in decreased microcomedone formation.

How to Take Adapalene

Take Adapalene exactly as prescribed by health care provider. Adapalene is generally available in market in the form of Cream 0.1%, Gel 0.1%, Solution 0.1%. Do not use if seal is broken. Remove pledget from foil pouch just before using. Discard pledget after single use. Do not reuse pledget if Adapalene is in solid form. Apply directly to affected area(s) using supplied applicator. Replace cap after each use if Adapalene is in liquid form.

Interactions of Adapalene with other drugs

Potentially irritating topical products (eg, medicated or abrasive soaps and cleansers, soaps and cosmetics that have strong drying effect, products with high concentrations of alcohol, spices or limes), products containing sulfur, resorcinol, or salicylic acid: Because of increased risk of local irritation, use with caution.
What are the Side Effects of Adapalene -

Like other medicines, Adapalene can cause side effects. Some of the more common side effects of Adapalene include

* Erythema;
* scaling; dryness;
* pruritus,
* skin discomfort,
* burning, stinging, and irritation;
* sunburn; acne flares.

Warnings and precautions before taking Adapalene :

* Assess the skin and identify areas where medication is to be applied and areas that are sunburned, have cuts, eczema, or abrasions; avoid these areas before using Adapalene.
* The safety and efficay of Adapalene medicine have not been studied in children and adolescents.
* Teach patient before using Adapalene the following proper technique for applying medication: wash hands; cleanse area with mild or soapless cleanser first then apply a thin film of cream, gel, or solution to cover skin areas with acne lesions; wash hands after applying medication.
* Warn patient before using Adapalene that applying medication more often than prescribed or in excessive quantities will not produce more rapid improvement or better results but will result in greater side effects such as redness, scaling, and discomfort.
* Warn patient to avoid unnecessary exposure to sun and sun lamps while using this medication. Advise patient to use sunscreens and protective clothing over treated areas when exposure cannot be avoided.
* Advise women before using Adapalene to inform health care provider if pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding while taking Adapalene. Insulin is recommended to maintain blood glucose levels during pregnancy. Prolonged severe neonatal hypoglycemia can occur if sulfonylureas are administered at time of delivery.

What if Overdose of Adapalene ?

If you think you or anyone else taken overdose of Adapalene , immediately telephone your doctor or contact your local or regional Poisons Information Centre Seek medical attention immediately. You may need urgent medical attention. Erythema; scaling; dryness; pruritus, skin discomfort, burning, stinging, and irritation; sunburn; acne flares are may be the overdose symptoms of Adapalene.

What if Missed Dose of Adapalene ?

If you miss a dose of Adapalene medicine and you remember within an hour or so, take the dose immediately. If you do not remember until later, skip the dose you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage Conditions for Adapalene :

Store at controlled room temperature (68° to 77°F). Keep tube tightly capped. Keep bottle tightly capped and stored upright. Protect from freezing.
