Affiliate Marketing: An Intro

By: ColinMcNulty

Affiliate Marketing is a fashionable and modern home business that is rapidly increasing in size every day. Affiliate marketers promote internet services that are not their own. The online business you are promoting will issue you a commission for each individual browser clicks from your website to their website, (Pay Per Click); each time someone enters their details through your site, (Pay Per Lead); or for each purchase made through you, (pay-per-sale). This can be great for both the online business and the affiliate marketer: the online business does not have to pay until it sells something, and the marketer can rake in impressive commissions.

Remember, it's possible to fail at Affiliate Marketing. If you're thinking about getting into the affiliate marketing business, here are some simple tips that will help you succeed:

Choose a service you are prepared to back fully. If you are not confident about the services you've picked to promote, do not try to pretend. Potential customers won't believe in your product if you do not recommend it entirely, and you can not do this if you do not truthfully believe in it. So shop around. Consider buying sample merchandise from a variety of websites. Phone the seller, explain that you are wanting to becoming an affiliate for them, and that you would like to trial their merchandise. Significant numbers of online businesses would be glad to send you a free sample.

Question your vendor. Be careful if they can't answer your questions in as much detail as you need. Are there any setup costs? Do they supply advertising tools to help you getting going? How do they record your referrals? Do they pay per lead, per click, per sale, etc?

Use a Search engine friendly website. The success of your affiliate marketing website depends on the number of visitors. Search engines tend to love websites that are full of relevant content, have significant numbers of websites pointing to it, and that enjoy a reasonable quantity of visitors already. The content on your site is highly crucial. You will need at the minimum one article for each significant search term that is germane to your site. Care must be taken however, do not just magic up content just for the search engines, or your browsers won't stay around to click on your monetized affiliate links. Make sure you include search terms, but create for browsers predominantly.

Become an online Creator. In order to tell the world about your site, it would be of benefit to appear to be an expert in your market. Publish articles about particular aspects in your niche that your browsers will definitely be interested in, and post them to article websites. Make sure you include a back link to your site so it will increase the number of links your site has and make your site more pleasing to search engines.

Using autoresponders. When a visitor emails you, you should have an autoresponder sequence set up to drip feed them tidbits of interest, money off advice, a coupon, information, an offer for a free report, anything that will get them coming back to your site.

Email list collection. The best way to do this is to provide registration for your online newsletter. Do not collect email addresses that browsers haven't given you explicit go ahead to use. This is spam and is illegal. Consider also offering offers in exchange for email addresses, e.g. free reports, give aways, entry into a contest etc.

Pre sell instead of selling. This is crucial to managing a successful Affiliate Marketing site. Your job as an affiliate marketer should be to not to drive relentless sales letters for your affiliate service. The online business you are marketing will already have a salesletter like that on their site, which the potential customer will see after clicking their link from your site. Alternatively, create a site that is directed to the interests of readers who are likely to procure the service. Include podcasts, add ons etc. You can always write a web page proposing the service, but do not single mindedly focus the full site on it. Alternatively, try to make your site a hot site for readers who you hope will click through and buy it.

Affiliate Marketing is most often a positively pleasing and productive home business. However it's most definitely not for people who need money for nothing. A victorious affiliate marketing business is a full time job, certainly to start with anyway. However if you keep to this simple advice, it will most likely to be worth your trouble.
