Alupent Medicine - Uses, Dosage and Side Effects

Alupent contains the active ingredient orciprenaline sulphate and it is similar to a natural human hormone known as adrenaline. It works by acting on receptors in the lungs known as beta 2 receptors.

Alupent Dosage

If you are using Inhalation Aerosol, then the usual starting dose is 2 to 3 inhalations.

Alupent Inhalation Aerosol is not recommended for use in children under 12 years of age.

Uses of Alupent

*This medication opens breathing passages to make breathing easier. Metaproterenol is used to prevent and treat breathing problems.
*It is used to treat Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease condition in the lungs that may causes the respiratory passages and may damage the lungs.
*It may also be used to treats other medical conditions those are listed in this medication guide.

Side Effects of Alupent

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Alupent.

More common side effects may include:

o Bad taste in mouth
o Cough
o Dizziness
o Headache
o High blood pressure
o Nausea
o Nervousness
o Rapid or throbbing heartbeat
o Stomach and intestinal upset
o Throat irritation
o Tremors
o Vomiting
o Worsening or aggravation of asthma

Side effects can occur when a new aerosol container is used, even though you have had no trouble with the medication in the past. Replacing the container may solve the problem.

Warnings and precautions before taking Alupent :

*When taking Alupent, you should not use other inhaled medications before checking with your doctor. Only your doctor can determine the sufficient amount of time between inhaled medications.
*You should consult with your doctor before using Alupent if you have a heart condition, a convulsive disorder such as epilepsy, high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, or diabetes mellitus.
*After taken this medicine, then you may feel dizzy, or drowsiness. So you should not participate in any activities that require alertness such as driving and operate machinery.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Alupent with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Alupent with the following:

MAO inhibitors

Bronchodilators such as Ventolin and Proventil inhalers

Tricyclic antidepressants such as Elavil and Tofranil

Overdose

Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of Alupent overdose may include:

o Dizziness
o Dry mouth
o Fatigue
o General feeling of bodily discomfort
o Headache
o High or low blood pressure
o Inability to fall or stay asleep
o Irregular heartbeat
o Nausea
o Nervousness
o Rapid
o Fluttery heartbeat
o Severe
o Suffocating chest pain
o Tremors
