Anti Aging Foods

By: Miranda Thompsen

Incorporating the following foods into your diet will help improve or prevent a lot of aliments as you age. This includes symptoms of menopause, osteoporosis and memory. These foods are tasty and can be easily prepared.

Tofu

Most soy products will alleviate the symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes. Tofu can be another source of protein in the diet. It helps lower cholesterol that may cause heart disease.

Navy Beans

Navy beans are a good source of fiber. Fiber reduces the possibility of various types of cancer including colon cancer. It also reduces the symptoms of diverticulosis. The recommended amount of fiber per day for a woman is thirty grams. You can add them to chili or as a side dish.

Yogurt

Yogurt contains a lot of calcium and this prevents osteoporosis. Studies show that yogurt can also help maintain weight loss and give a boost to your immune system. It contains the bacteria acidophilus which prevents urinary tract and yeast infections. Yogurt is a source of protein. This is good for menopause symptoms such as weariness after a hot flash episode.

Blueberries

Studies show that blueberries may improve short term memory and they are full of antioxidants. You can add them to your yogurt for an added punch of nutrients. The yogurt (as mentioned above), would benefit your bones and the blueberries will give a boost to your brain.

Avocado

Avocado is another source of antioxidants. It contains vitamin E. Vitamin E becomes more important to your skin and eyes as you get older. Avocados are full of monounsaturated fats and this improves the skin and hair. You could add avocado to your turkey sandwich or make a snack of guacamole and low fat baked tortilla chips.

Other changes in your diet that will help your overall condition are a good nights sleep; and cutting out cigarettes and alcohol. Too much sodium or fat will affect your health no matter what age, but if you are going through menopause, they aggravate the situation.
