Apple Juice Antioxidants, Dieting, Nutrition Facts And More

By: alien

Apple juice is a great way to kick-start your day or quench your thirst on a hot summer day.

The juice is produced by crushing apples, the extraction of which is then filtered to give you a clear juice and is then pasteurized.

Besides being a delicious drink, what makes it so popular, is that it is very healthy.

Making of...

Extracting juice from an apple tends to require heavy equipment, as a result of which it is always commercially produced, unlike the juices from other fruits such as oranges and lemons.

It is interesting to note that apple drink is one of the most frequently used fruit juices worldwide.

Juice concentrate is made by evaporating fresh apple essence, extracted from fresh apples. There are two kinds of apple concentrate, namely, clear and cloudy juice concentrate.

The clear juice concentrate is produced by removing Pectin and starch during the production process. The reason why apple juice tends to have a cloudy appearance is because of the evenly-distributed small pulp suspensions in the juice concentrate.

Apple Juice as an antioxidant

According to research, the cloudy apple drink is healthier as it contains more antioxidants than the clear juice. For those who are unfamiliar with the term antioxidants, they are compounds that neutralize free radicals, molecules that can damage body cells and contribute to various diseases.

However, it has been noticed that consumers prefer the clear juice and retailers opt for it too, due to its longer shelf life. Despite all this, it is still better to eat whole apples with their skin rather than drink the juice to get the most antioxidants.

Apple juice diet
There is no denying the wide variety of apples that can be utilized for producing juice. Apple juice is packed with vitamins A and C and is a powerful cleanser and general tonic for the entire system.

If you find the taste too strong, just dilute the juice with water or mix it with another fruit or vegetable juice, such as carrots, melons or cucumbers.

A piece of advice, though, in order to keep the juice from turning brown, it would be a good idea to juice a lemon, before juicing the apples.

Some people even resort to an apple diet, which involves the short term intake of raw vegetable and fruit juices only as a means of detoxification. This method helps to eliminate toxins from the body.

Toxins that can harm the body tissue are transformed chemically to less harmful compounds and excreted visa the stools or urine. One of the reasons this fruit is used is because apple is rich in vitamins and antioxidants.

Nutrition benefits of apple juice

Apple has a high concentration of phenolics, which researchers say help to protect from many diseases associated with aging, including heart disease and cancer. Besides vitamin C, apple also contains the mineral nutrient ‘boron’ which is believed to promote healthy bones.

Additionally, it also helps to lower blood cholesterol, improves bowel function, reduces the risk of stroke, prostrate cancer, type II diabetes and asthma.

The phrase ‘an apple a day’ now has new meaning for those eager to maintain their mental skills, irrespective of their age. Research suggests that consuming apple juice may in fact protect against cell damage, which contributes to age related memory loss.

There is no denying then that the benefits of drinking juice are multi-fold. Furthermore, if the label states 100% apple juice, this means that it is fat free, saturated fat free and sodium and cholesterol free.

Although the nutrition fact label will not tell you, but the fact remains that apples contribute minerals to the diet, which promotes bone health.

So the next time you are looking for a drink for you and your family, stay away from those frizzy ones and opt for apple juice, which is packed with vitamins that are truly beneficial.
