Armour thyroid is a brand of natural desiccated thyroid extract made by Forest Laboratories in the United States. Armour Thyroid and others acts as a replacement for people whose thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. People with hypothyroidism have lower-than-normal or no thyroid function and do not make enough thyroid hormone for the body to function properly. Taking thyroid hormone medication replaces missing hormones.

Armour Thyroid Dosage

One grain (equivalent to 60mg) or higher dosages are potent and usually require temperature monitoring and occasional blood tests. Persons with more-serious thyroid conditions are often be prescribed one grain. Dosages under a physician's guidance can often reach three to five grains daily.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Armour Thyroid with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Armour Thyroid with the following:

*Asthma medications such as Theo-Dur
*Blood thinners such as Coumadin
*Cholestyramine
*Colestipol
*Estrogen preparations
*Insulin
*Oral diabetes drugs such as Diabinese and Glucotrol

Overdose

An overdose of Armour Thyroid will speed up all of the body's vital processes, causing physical and mental hyperactivity, increased appetite, excessive sweating, chest pain, increased pulse rate, palpitations, nervousness, intolerance to heat, and possibly tremors or a rapid heartbeat.
