Berries Are Healthy

By:

Many people do not realize just how good for you berries really are. Besides being a tasty treat that's low in calories, berries are a very important part of a nutritious diet. They are valuable in fighting many diseases and conditions such as cancer, hypertension, diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, and heart disease.

Antioxidants

Strawberries and darker berries such as blueberries and blackberries are extremely high in antioxidants. Antioxidants are helpful in delaying the aging process and reducing wrinkles. Antioxidants can help you feel better and look better.

Phytochemicals

Berries contain phytochemicals. Phytochemicals can be very effective in preventing major diseases such as diabetes and cancer. Phyochemicals are also effective at reducing the effects of existing conditions or diseases.

Raspberries, blueberries and cranberries can reduce your risk of infection of the bladder. Raspberries can prevent the growth of more than 12 different kinds of bacteria, including the yeast that causes yeast infections. Straberries, mulberries, red raspberries and blueberries have also proven effective in fighting cancer of many different types.

Vitamin C

Berries are among the best sources of vitamin C in the world. Strawberries, cranberries, currants, gooseberries, and loganberries are also very high in vitamin C. Vitamin C helps to keep your body's immune system strong and healthy and it assists in the formation of strong connective tissue. The assistance with the immune system is why vitamin C is recommended to those who are sick.

Lutein

Blueberries and raspberries also contain components that will improve our vision. Lutein is also very effective at preventing age related macular degeneration or AMD.

Benefits of Blueberries (I Love Blueberries)

Blueberries also promote the healthy production of collagen within your body. Your bruises will often heal faster if you eat a large number of blueberries. You can also enjoy a reduced risk of unsightly varicose veins. Blueberries can delay memory loss and the loss of motor skills. Research has shown them effective in reducing the effects of Alzheimer's Disease. Every berry seems to have it's own positive effects so I recommend eating a great variety of berries! Blueberries are my personal favorite though so that's why they get their own section in this article.

In Conclusion

I personally don't need any more reason to eat berries than the fact that they are delicious. But it sure is nice to know that some of my favorite things to eat in the world are also very good for me. Next time you want something sweet have some berries instead of junk food like ice cream and candy bars.
