Claritin-D Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Loratadine is an antihistamine. It works against the naturally occurring chemical histamine in the body. It prevents sneezing; runny nose; itching, watery eyes; and other allergic symptoms. Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant. It shrinks blood vessels. By decreasing blood flow, it also decreases congestion.

Loratadine and pseudoephedrine is used to relieve symptoms of allergic conditions.

Loratadine and pseudoephedrine may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Claritin-D Dosage

•The usual starting dose is 1 tablet every 12 hours for Claritin-D 12 Hour, 1 tablet a day for Claritin-D 24 Hour.
•If you have kidney trouble, then your doctor will start you on 1 tablet a day.

Uses of Claritin-D

•Claritin-D is used to treats symptoms of allergic conditions.
•Claritin-D is used to relieve hay fever and allergy symptoms, including sneezing, runny nose, and red, itchy, tearing eyes. Claritin-D is in a class of medications called antihistamines. It works by blocking histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms. Claritin-D may cause less drowsiness than other antihistamines.
•It may also be used to treats other medical conditions those are listed in this medication guide.

Side Effects of Claritin-D

•Coughing
•Dizziness
•Dry mouth
•Fatigue
•Insomnia
•Nausea
•Sleepiness
•Sore throat

Most common side-effects are fatigue, drowsiness, dry mouth, and headaches. Before taken Claritin-D medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.

Warnings and precautions before taking Claritin-D:

•If you have diabetes, heart disease, an overactive thyroid gland, kidney or liver problems, or an enlarged prostate gland, then you should be used this medicine with extra caution..
•Before taking Claritin-D, you should tell your doctor if you have asthma or another lung disease; diabetes; thyroid problems; glaucoma or increased pressure in the eye.
•Do not take Claritin-D without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant. Claritin-D passes into breast milk and may affect a nursing baby. Do not take Claritin-D without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
•Claritin-D has not been approved for use by children younger than 12 years of age.
•If you are taking Claritin-D and experience insomnia, dizziness, weakness, tremor, or unusual heartbeats, then you should tell your doctor.

Drug Interaction :- If you are taking Claritin-D with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Claritin-D with the following:

•MAO inhibitors, such as the antidepressants Nardil and Parnate
•Mecamylamine
•Methyldopa
•Blood pressure medications classified as beta blockers
•Digoxin
•Reserpine
Overdose

Because it may lead to another serious effect. Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of a Claritin-D overdose include

•Anxiety
•Breathing difficulty
•Chest pain
•Convulsions
•Insomnia
•Irregular heartbeat
•Nausea
•Delusions
•Fluttery heartbeat
•Giddiness
•Hallucinations
•Headache
•Tension,
•Thirst
•Vomiting
•Weakness
