Cold Calling Does Not Work:Find Out Why

Most people who are in sales are very familiar with cold calling because this is how they make their living. Cold calling does not work anymore, you may come across a solid prospect every now and again but more than likely They will make the decision to buy when they want to and it could leave you twisting in the wind until they decide.

When it is evident this has such a low success rate why would companies waste valuable resources,your time, on cold calling? Let's take a look:

*The only revenue a company is spending is your salary.

* They feel that most account executives generally have a short term job mentality and will take the next job that pays a higher salary and they know that investing in a marketing campaign will dip into their profit margins and do not really care how effective it is.

* They do not have to invest in a lot of training for the rep because somebody with general knowledge of what they are selling can sit down and write a script whether it is effective or not.

In the long term the rep who is responsible for making the calls will eventually get burned out and they will move on to another company. Many companies thank this is the norm so investing in their employees to find better more effective ways of marketing will be passed along on to other companies.

Cold calling is past its time which in the past has been effective but with the advent of the internet most people will look for themselves to find a product. They are also constantly bombarded with marketing and they have become desensitized to it and generally will not listen to new offerings unless they decide that they need it and need it now.

At the right moment if you can keep your message in front of a prospect you will be fresh in their minds and they will be more likely to ask for a meeting.

There are many ways to find new leads without cold calling you just have to be creative. Becoming a recognized expert in your field will make prospects come to you and make it easier to sell. If you can find ways to eliminate cold calling than your success rate will go up and you will make more sales.
