Do You Have Unwanted Hair?

By: Jeffy Kimmel

Sounding pretty much like a child's riddle in this. Can we say that we are prepared to be thick and bountiful on one part of our bodies but invisible on another? Can we handle spending billions both to encourage and discourage? With regard to hair, it can be beautiful on our heads but disgusting just about any place else. A professor of psychology at a Pennsylvania college said that it's very complicated. When you ask people about why they shave, the answer you will probably get is that you're supposed to.

A given is when all the standards of attractiveness have been questioned except for body hair and this is still true in the 1990s. Considering how new, high technology methods of getting rid of unwanted hair are entering the medical marketplace, this may be truer than ever. When the first laser hair removal system was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, it was April 1995 and the hair removal market has been in a state of agitation.

What happened here was that the arguments between purveyors of different ways to get rid of hair like electrolysis vs.lasers or lasers vs.different kinds of lasers for example played out through Web sites and advertisements. With regard to this, at stake were the dollars Americans spend to dispatch with hair they deem undesirable estimated to be from $2 billion to $5 billion annually. Using lasers, women use them to get rid of their facial hair and bikini lines while men use them for their simian backs. When it comes to lasers, they are convenient and they save time and because of this people who hate their nubby armpits, regret their hair transplants, or those who want smooth bodies to cut down on wind resistance during sports use them.

It is a substantial group of transsexuals in Northern California that wants to achieve various degrees of hairlessness. For medicine, it is becoming ever more market driven and so laser hair removal has been a way for dermatologists, cosmetic surgeons, and even spa owners to reach this eager clientele. Having worked with other lasers for nearly 20 years are the doctors who are finding themselves fielding questions from patients who've read about laser hair removal and want to know if it's worth it.

After much thought, one doctor decided to invest in a laser system. Then he started offering treatments. Now that the entire industry is gearing up for this like you can't believe, he said that this must be a huge market indeed. Taking laser hair removal into consideration, it causes less pain and takes less time than electrolysis, which kills individual hair follicles with an electric current delivered by a very fine needle. Those who said that their treatment isn't as painful as its reputation holds and that theirs is the only permanent form of hair removal were the proponents of electrolysis. Working in different ways even though they share one principle are the different hair removal lasers. The first laser to be approved, manufactured and heavily marketed requires waxing the skin and the excess wiped away. The skin is left unharmed even if the laser passes over it because it only heats up the carbon left in the hair follicles damaging them.

The usage of long pulse ruby or alexandrite lasers which don't require waxing or a carbon based lotion comes with other hair removal systems. Aimed at the skin is the light of the laser passing through it until it strikes pigment in brown or black hair. Considering that the light turns into heat, this causes injury to the hair follicle. Because skin also contains melanin, lasers may not work as well on dark skin, which may undergo changes in pigmentation, or on very light skin, which may not have enough melanin to start the process.
