Esmolol Drug Information - uses, side effects, precaution for Esmolol

By: alien

What is Esmolol and for what Esmolol is used?

Esmolol is in a class of drugs called beta-blockers. Beta-blockers work by affecting the response to some nerve impulses in certain parts of the body. As a result, they decrease the heart's need for blood and oxygen by reducing its workload. They also help the heart to beat more regularly. Esmolol is a fast acting beta-blocker and is only given by slow injection into the veins. It acts specifically on the receptors in the heart muscle and Esmolol is therefore known as a cardio-selective beta-blocker. Esmolol is used for temporary control of heart rate and blood pressure.
