People who have good posture have a lesser tendency to develop osteoporosis. Good posture helps you align your bones properly and exerts minimum strain on your muscles, ligament and, joints. On the other hand, faulty posture leads to fatigue, strains up your muscles and subsequently cause pain. In many people who suffer from chronic backache, faulty postural habits for years are the etiological factor. Besides, faulty posture can influence the functioning of abdominal organs.

Good posture not only helps you boosting your bone and muscle health but confers you a good appearance as well. An individual who has good posture possess poise and self-assurance.

Here are some of the tips to acquire a good posture

· Sit or stand straight, but relaxed.
· Keep your chin in line with the neck and your neck in line with your spine.
· When you stand, keep your knees relaxed, do not lock or bend them.
· Hold you head high.
· Keep your chin in.
· While sitting or driving, place a cushion in the small of your back.
· Avoid leaning when you do handwork.
· Avoid carrying weight for a long time as it exerts a steady forward pull on your back muscles and also makes your abdominal muscles frail.
· Do not stay in one position for extended periods.
· Use a firm mattress for sleeping and avoid using a high pillow.
· Indulge in a regular physical activity. Exercises promote your bone and muscle health.
· Dress in easy and well-supported shoes. Do not use high-heeled or platform shoes, they not only deform normal shape of your but also exert strain on your back.
· Take care of your posture while walking, uphold your head straight with your chin parallel to the ground, let your arms swing naturally, and point your feet in the direction you are heading.

Proper Lifting

· Always keep your back straight and bend your knees instead.
· Go close to the object, because the backbone takes the least strain when you are close to the object.
· While you lift, avoid bending forward.
· Do not try to lift the objects that you think are too heavy for you. Get help.
