Hemorroids - Are They Treatable?

By: Jayden Shemayah

Hemorroids are described as a state in which an itching or tender collection of dilated veins occurs causing swollen anal tissue. Hemorroids or piles are the medical terms used for the condition of varicosity or swelling in the rectum and anus.

External hemorroids and internal hemorroids are the two most widespread types of hemorroids.

Hemorroid Management

Hemorroids are very much treatable. They can be treated by natural ways and medical treatment. Severe hemorroids can only be treated through surgery.

The following are various tips to get momentary hemorroid relief.

• A warm sitz bath using a bidet, extendable showerhead, cold compress, or topical analgesic, like Preparation H, can offer temporary hemorroid relief.

• A sufferer must keep the region hygienic and dry using hemorroids creams or suppositories.

Hemorroid Cure through Natural Ways

• Controlling constipation and diarrhea.
• Ingesting large quantities of water and consuming fiber-rich bulking agents like plantain and psyllium to help produce a soft stool that is painless to pass to minimize the irritation of existing hemorroids.
• Taking herbs and nutritional supplements such as butcher's broom, horse chestnut, bromelain, and Japanese pagoda tree extracts to strengthen rectal vein walls. Latest studies have supported natural botanicals such as Butchers Broom, Horse Chestnut, and bioflavonoids as an helpful hemorroid treatment.
• Topical application of organic astringents and soothing agents, such as Witch Hazel (astringent), Cranesbill and Aloe Vera.
• Reducing rectal pressure and improving postures; using the squatting position for bowel movements.

Medicinal Hemorroid Treatments

Persistent or serious cases need medical hemorroids treatments. The following are some usual medical hemorroids treatments.

• Hemorroidolysis/Galvanic Electrotherapy is a straightforward and extremely successful hemorroids therapy. It includes the desiccation of the hemorroid by electrical current.
• Dilation is the treatment comprising of stretching of the anal sphincter muscle, but has side effects.
• In Rubber band ligation treatment, elastic bands are applied onto an internal hemorroid to cut off its supply of blood. Within a few weeks, the shrunken hemorroid is sloughed off through routine bowel movement.
• In Sclerotherapy or injection therapy, sclerosant or hardening agent is injected into hemorroids. It causes the vein walls to collapse and the hemorroids to shrink up.
• In Cryosurgery therapy, a freezing tip of a cryoprobe is used to destroy hemorroidal tissues.
• In Laser, infared or BICAP coagulation treatment, laser, infrared beam, or an electric current is used to cauterize the affected tissues.
• Hemorroidectomy is a surgical process to cut out and remove hemorroids.

An operation is the only treatment option for very serious cases, such as prolapsed, thrombosed, or strangulated hemorroids.
