Houston Astros Tickets

By: travelmayor

A Major League team in Houston played on natural grass outdoors in 2000. This was really an unusual feat as this was something the grand old game of baseball had not experienced since 1964. The fans eagerly welcomed clear skies and real grass. Furthermore, the Bayou City hardball faithful also enjoyed Minute Maid Park’s 242-foot high, retractable roof. This fact scored with the fans and the response to the new ballpark overwhelming, resulting in a record of more than 3,000,000 fans through the Minute Maid Park turnstiles in the 2000 season. In the facility’s two seasons of play, almost 6,000,000 visitors have been recorded. This makes it a lot of people enjoying their favorite game and with the game of Houston Astros and having a mind blowing experience.

Minute Maid Park is a jewel in the crown of the majestic downtown Houston skyline, a welcome home for the Houston Astros (the club’s previous home was the Astrodome). It has indeed ushered in a new era of Major League sports in the city. The visionary innovation is clearly evident in stadium construction and its retractable roof technology brought open-air baseball to Houston for the first time in 35 years. It has the atmosphere of the great ballparks of baseball’s Golden age with its natural grass surface and classic architecture. Houston Astros career leader is Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan with 1,866 K’s. He is also baseball’s all-time strikeout king with 5,714.

There were great expectations for Houston Astros when the 2004 campaign began. It started with so much promise that it hurt when it turned into a mediocre effort that resulted in a .500 record at the All-Star breakheld at Minute Maid Park. This led to the dismissal of manager Jimy Williams. Phil Garner took over the managerial duties three weeks after, even though many people were against him. But the Houston Astros really responded to him. This was when the Houston Astros began an unprecedented 36-10 run that leapfrogged them over five teams en route to the National League Wild Card. They jumped up high, snatched up the opportunity and won their first postseason series in franchise history when they topped the Atlanta Braves, three games to two, in the Division Series. These were trying times as the team was decimated by injuries leaving them with only two proven starters – Roy Oswalt and Roger Clemens (who postponed his retirement for one year). A slew of players made valiant efforts to lead the Houston Astros to the seventh game of the National League Championship Series. This was truly the Houston Astros’ historic run and it ended with a 5-2 Game 7 loss to the Cardinals, one game shy of their first-ever World Series berth. Who knows what would have happened if they had won the game this time.

Roger Clemens of Houston Astros said that his decision to put off retirement again was “very heart-wrenching”. He said this when he picked up his seventh Cy Young Award at the annual New York baseball dinner Sunday night. Then, turning to his former manager with the Yankees, Joe Torre, he practically apologized.
