How To Take Good Care Of Your Old Dogs And Make Them Comfortable

By: Jerry Brecken

In life, some good things come to an end.

It is sad to note that such is true with our treasured pets. Even if Old Lassie will want to stay with you forever, the time will come when your dog will just have to leave you. It is one of life's simple facts that can never be denied. It's sad when you reminisce about those times when your dog was tailing you. Most of the time, you two would play catch or just stroll around. Now that your pet has reached its old age, your dog lost its vigor and interest in its usual exercises.

However, you can do something for Old Lassie by making it as comfortable as possible. For dog enthusiasts, this task is not that hard to do. Taking care of pet dogs and of humans is almost exactly the same. You can provide comfort to your old dogs by merely giving them a suitable dog bed. After all, with your old dog's waning energy, there won't be much urge for it to hang around outside anymore as much as it used to. A good place of its own is what your old dog needs. Think of it as a payback to all the years that you and your dog have been through.

Here are more helpful tips on taking care of your old dogs and make them comfortable:

1. Give your dog a cushy dog bed to relax its nerves. The dog bed will be your pet's sanctuary and resting place from then on. Thus, choose the most suitable bed dog for your old pal. Don't lose the chance to avail of the numerous varieties of dog bed products available in the market today.

2. Every good dog deserves nutritious food. Healthy dogs are better equipped to survive old age and battle ailments that come with it. So regularly provide your dog with the nutritious food and supplemental vitamins that it deserves. Just any brand or type of dog food will not do. Remember that the aged condition is the time when your dog needs good food the most.

3. Maintain your dog's good shape through regular exercise. Dogs that often exercise live longer. On the other hand, obese dogs get sick more easily. The exercise will also give your dog a chance to stroll around and enjoy again the activities that it no longer gets to do.

4. Keep your old dogs from acquiring fleas and ticks. Do this through regular dog check-ups. Let your dog undergo regular heartworm and intestinal parasite checkups by your trusted veterinarian. It is also best to maintain cleanliness in your house to keep your dog from external parasites.
