I live in Murcia

By: RussellMarsh

Murcia, Spain (one of my favourite Towns anywhere!) is a County of many faces and boasts a varied mix of baroque architecture, trendy shops and enough variety of hotels, places to eat and bars/nightlife to suit anybody! Getting a place to stay is perhaps less stressful than in the majority of large cities and great value can be achieved. No matter what your disposition (now and again I just fancy a simple meal, Then there are times I'm ready to enjoy a good drink followed by some late night dancing) Murcia can oblige your fancy..

The Casino (built in 1847), in Trapería, possesses a magnificent Arab patio, a barogue ballroom and a great selection of other fantastically laid out halls and rooms with fantastic ornate plaster work. Really it's more of a luxury Gentlemen's Club than what you'd think of as a casino these days but pay it a visit if you can, it's absolutely Amazing!

The Cathedral is the main attraction of the City in truth. It dates from the 14th to the 18th centuries and really represents the variety of building methods of those times. There are four special features of the cathedral of fascination to the visitor: The fancy façade of the “Puerta del Perdón”; The Renaissance “Junterones” chapel; The cathedral tower which is 96 metres tall and boasts 25 bells: Also you must visit the Diocesan Museum.

Other architecturally interesting points of interest well worth a look at are the City Hall (Ayuntamiento) and the Teatro Romea, some of whose ornamental frontages come from the 14th century. You must go to see the region's awesome artistic history in many exhibition halls, museums and art galleries that all are an important part of the county's brilliant artistic life: Salzillo Museum (what a awesome sculptor this guy was!); The Bullfighting Museum (some exhibits for the strong stomach...); The Archaeological Museum; The Ramón Gaya Museum (dedicated to this local artist in 1990, he was 82 then; The Museum of Fine Arts.. There are lots of pieces from other talents as well. Ramón was strongly influenced by Rembrandt - to let you see an idea of the style..; The Palacio Almudí Art Centre; and so the list goes on.. If style, culture and architecture are your interest then a really good holiday awaits you in Murcia, Spain.

An interesting feature here to remind us of Murcia's trading past is that some of the streets are called after the goods that were sold on them, for example Plateria (silver), Traperia (cloth).

Accomodations in Murcia cover the full spectrum of standards to suit all people from a little bed and breakfast hotel to 5 Star opulence and cafes litter the many little squares to suit all wallets and tastes. If you just fancy a good old drink there are plenty of trendy and some not so cool bars to have a night out in.

Shopping is a particular joy for my partner more than myself. (I'm not alone here I bet..) My Wife has told me that she doesn't have to go out of town to buy exclusive stuff so that tells me the whole shopping experience in Murcia County must be pretty impressive!! No, really though, there are plenty of good shops and anything you could need is available here. There are some really cool trendy shops and the workers here are very nice though in some it would be best if you could speak Spanish.. Overall, Murcia is a great place to live near or visit which is what I do..

Get the lifestyle you always wanted and live in a Polaris World apartment in Murcia. I love it!! :-)
