Indigestion - Causes and Home Remedies

By: alien

Indigestion

Indigestion usually happens when people eat too much of food, too fast, or foods that our body do not like for our health. Indigestion is a vague feeling of discomfort and pain in the upper abdomen and chest, including a feeling of fullness and bloating, accompanied by belching and nausea.

Indigestion is very common and most people have it from time to time. For some people it is very mild and doesn't happen very often - perhaps only after a large meal or particularly rich food. While indigestion may be the result of a disease or an ulcer in the digestive tract, most often it is the result of eating too much, eating too quickly, eating high-fat foods, or eating during stressful situations.

Cause of Indigestion

Some causes of indigestion may include the following :-

• stomach or duodenal ulcers
• stomach irritation (gastritis)
• regurgitation or reflux of acid from the stomach
• inflammation of the gallbladder (cholecystitis)
• lactose intolerance (inability to digest lactose, a milk sugar, and dairy products)
• Greasy or fatty foods
• Chocolate or drinks containing caffeine
• Onions, garlic or spicy foods
• Certain medications
• Eating a very large meal
• Lying down after eating

Home remedies for Indigestion

*Drink a glass of water with a tablespoon of baking soda for instant relief.
*Add three drops of garlic oil to an half a cup of Soya oil and rub onto the stomach after eating proper food.
*Prepare a herbal tea of mint, raspberry, chamomile and blackbe and drink every day.
*Eat once or twice daily, never after sunset and avoid all in between snacks.
*An orange is another effective home remedy as it gives rest to the digestive organs and supplies nutrition. So daily use of one or two orange is good in indigestion.
*Grapes are also effective in removing indigestion and irritation from the stomach.
*Ginger tea after meal promotes digestion. Herbal tea prepared using blackberry, raspberry, mint and camomile is effective for indigestion. Take one glass of honey and lemon juice, both mixed in equal quantity.
*A tablespoon of cinnamon water, taken after an hour after meals, relieves flatulence and indigestion.
*Ground cardamom seed mixed with ginger, cloves and coriander is an effective remedy for indigestion.
