Lifestyle Change Made Easy - Attaching Motivation & Commitment

By: Elizabeth Bohorquez, RN, C.Ht

Achieving a major lifestyle change is like a good old fashioned rope tug . While a piece of rope doesn't look hold much interest for most of us, rock climbers would certainly disagree, as it is their lifeline. The rope is an excellent metaphor for the work you doing here and I'm sure you'll agree that it does take a lot of personal power to pull lifestyle change permanently into your life.

Attaching Motivation - How we choose to look at or feel about things is very important, for the emotions we attach to our thoughts and ideas can either chemically motivate or de-motivate us. When thoughts or ideas are flavored with motivation, chemicals that flow through the body are very different than those that flow when we flavor with de-motivation. When we consciously choose to motivate, the subconscious mind plays the game quite differently than when we choose or do not change thoughts and ideas that favor de-motivation. Here in the Boot Camp you will learn to manage your own motivation center, evaluating evaluate old motivational patterns of the past & learning to edit them if necessary. You will also learn to build both positive & negative motivating images & program specifics for benefiting from both directions.

Thoughts coated with high level desire or motivation act like radar and bring more of the same towards consciousness and the experience. The radar mechanism of the subconscious mind is very creative and brings up anything and everything one might need to know to bring the idea or thought goal to fruition. Many of these things are already sitting right in your own subconscious mind, but have not connected to the idea or thought goal. When we produce the body chemicals of de-motivation or stress, this creativity seems to block.

Exploring Containments - How we choose to categorize or contain our ideas and thoughts is also very important. If we think about our life as a single unit and then perceive it as being difficult, we are setting the stage for a tremendous struggle should we want to change. Seeing or sensing our life with this type of image or thought is setting ourselves up for failure. The truth of the matter is that our lives have many parts or containments and within those parts there are other parts. Therefore the deeper we can focus and identify the individual parts, the easier it will be for us to change something that doesn't work, as well as to enhance areas that we would like to work at higher levels.

When something is too generalized or our idea of it is too big for managing, it's not uncommon to crawl into a hole and procrastinate. We have all experienced this at one time or another. We've probably named it something like fear of success or fear of change. Once again, very generalized names or descriptions. Here we have the opportunity to see and sense the power of words and the images they convey. If a job is too big for us and we sense fear or find ourselves procrastinating, we often look to someone stronger to pull us out and if we are thinking with self-responsibility, hoping that person will strengthen us at the same time. This is often a good way to begin something, but it is not the cure-all for what ails us.
