Lifestyle Change Made Easy - The Art of Self Mastery

Learning to manage & then partaking in the management of any addiction or compulsion such as nail biting or skin picking gives us the opportunity to become a Master of Self. In fact, any bad habit, behavior, compulsion or addiction can open this same door & be a powerful gift in disguise. Learning & partaking are two completely different areas & while this may sound like common sense, unfortunately it is not & forms the seat of failure for many people wanting to control unwanted behaviors or habits.

While we are going to focus on these particular compulsive behaviors, the work here can be applied to any area of your choice. Life is like a merry go round & it doesn't stop for us when we want or need to solve a particular problem. This includes nail biting, cuticle & skin picking, hair pulling & twirling. Do know that there will never be a right or perfect time to begin. It's silly to even imagine that the merry go round will slow down or that someone else will see to it that you get on & then solve your problems for you. I'd like to suggest that you begin right NOW. That's correct. You begin by intending, checking the intensity of your desire & then making a commitment...........right now in this very moment.

Statement of Intention & Commitment:

I hereby state that I fully intend to work daily to develop my own self-mastery as it applies to my issue/opportunity of ____________________ & I hereby commit myself to doing the necessary learning & work involved. All of my thoughts & mind images regarding my issue/opportunity will be framed in positive, healing frames radiating full success. I commit to respecting, honoring & caring for all parts of my body at the highest level, understanding that they are a part of me & represent how I choose to see & respect myself.

I also commit myself to raising my desire in this regard, fully understanding that this desire will transmit to many other areas of my life.

Well done. Writing commitments are very powerful mind suggestions. Your own subconscious mind is now ready to work in your behalf & will not only remind you of your written words, but will find many ways for you to succeed, perhaps some you never even thought about on a conscious level. You are on your way.

Your problems, habits & behaviors are yours & so the first thing we must do is accept that fact & then learn to love that fact, or at least pretend to like it. The subconscious mind does not know the difference between pretending or true belief, so simply choose to pretend to like the fact that you are the writer, director & producer of your life moments & therefore, you are self-responsible for what you do, or how you react/respond in each & every moment.

I'd like you to do more than read this...........perhaps you would like to write some self-affirmations that support these beliefs & then sit quietly with them, as if you were holding gifts on your lap, for indeed they are......this is the true beginning of self-mastery.

Interactive Self-Hypnosis Exercise

Relax deeply into the moment. This is very simple to do. Place yourself in a situation where you will not be disturbed for the next 15 minutes or so. Remember, you choose this & so there may need to be some direction to others, as well as to yourself. Find a comfortable chair, dim the lights if possible & close your eyes gently, lightly glued at the lids. Tilt your eyes up about 20 degrees just as if you were sitting in the second row of a private movie theater.

If you like, you can record this & store it on your computer. Up & out in front of you is your mind screen. Notice the darkness of the mind screen & allow yourself to enjoy that. Sense the chair underneath you & behind you touching your back & sense magnets pulling you down gently. If you like, pretend you are going down a spiral staircase or simply notice numbers entering & diminishing on your mind screen.

Our focus in this interactive self-hypnosis exercise is beginning your responsible care in relation to your fingers, your nails, your cuticles, your hair or whatever issue you may choose. The mind screen is where we place the outcomes we want, just as if we already had them. So, pay attention now & go ahead & do this. Make the pictures however you want them to be. Perhaps you have seen pictures of beautifully manicured nails, healthy cuticles, eyelashes, eyebrows, the hair on your head..... you get the idea. Notice that you have these cared for body parts. Notice that you are happy, relaxed, at peace & feeling the joy of having these. Truly evoke those positive emotions & enhance them. Pretend that you have a dial in your hand & when you turn it in the direction of your choice, your positive emotion enhances & the the focus parts of your body enhance their beauty/care as well. Take your time here....

Now when you are ready, notice there is a door in the back of the mind screen. This is your self-care center. Enter the door & notice that a guide is there waiting for you. The guide ushers you through all the positive self-care areas that are now a part of your life. Notice that any & all emotions that are negative-based have been gently ushered out to the playground where they will lighten up. Positive & healthy emotions are present & observing the different self-care procedures. Applaud this & sense joy & love of self-management in your Self. You may choose to leave some positive affirmations with the workers here. And when you are ready, locate the 5 steps that will bring you back to where you began this exercise, in the workshop of the world.

There are many imagery/thought suggestions that appear simple, but are very powerful for over-coming these perceived problems. The programs I've designed have hundreds of subconscious mind suggestions included in them. My work as a medical & personal development hypnotherapist is to work within a clinical "story-board" & then to bring the listener inside their own mind & story-board. If you haven't worked in this way before, you might enjoy doing so. It is really quite profound.
