Morning Sickness Cure: Many Remedies Sought

By: alien

Many moms-to-be suffer from morning sickness. For still many more, morning sickness strikes throughout the day and not just in the mornings. Occurring between the first month and lasting up to the fourth month, morning sickness can last in some women for as long as the entire duration of the pregnancy. There are various cures which are tried for morning sickness.

Take Vitamin B6 - 50 mg. Daily

Vitamin B6 has been scientifically shown to help morning sickness. You can find Vitamin B6 at your local drugstore or health food store. Companies have started to incorporate therapeutic doses of Vitamin B6 into their products to help you cure your morning sickness. These products are called B-Natal TheraPops, cherry flavored lollipops that have been shown to help cure morning sickness for many women, and vitamin B-6 enriched product called Morning Sickness Magic. Morning Sickness Magic is an herbal remedy containing Ginger, Vitamin B-6, Red Raspberry Leaf and Folic Acid.

Avoid Fatigue

Since fatigue plays a big part in inducing morning sickness, taking naps during the day but not right after eating, helps. Avoiding warm places as heat can increase the nausea feelings will prevent morning sickness as will getting adequate sleep at night.

Other bedtime tips include getting out of bed slowly in the morning, and feasting on plain crackers or dry cereal before getting out of bed in the morning.

Ginger

Ginger in capsule form of about 250 mg. taken about three times daily can be beneficial. Long been associated with alleviating nausea, ginger benefits can be had by chewing on crystallized ginger or sucking on ginger hard candies.

Oils for relieving Nausea

Carry a handkerchief with a few drops of an essential oil that helps in combating nausea (lemon for example). Breathing through this lemon oil handkerchief can help you get away from the smell that is bothering you.

Food Tips

Having frequent protein snacks (low fat meats and seafood, nuts, eggs and beans are high protein), eating smaller meals every two hours or so, eating something salty before a meal to help you "make it through" a meal; no taking of fluids with your meals; the drinking of small amounts of fluids regularly thoughout the day to avoid dehydration, and the avoiding of skipping of meals, are what you could keep in mind to get relief from morning sickness. Asking someone else to cook for you and opening the windows or turning on fans if the odor bothers you, will prevent bouts of morning sickness. Eating spicy and fried food - both eating and smelling it can increase your nausea, so avoiding it makes sense. Similarly, cold food may have less nausea-inducing properties with them.

Medicine and the Right Cure

If your morning sickness is severe enough and playing havoc with your life, your doctor may prescribe medication that will help you reclaim some normalcy. If you are unable to keep food or water down for any length of time, it is essential to talk to your doctor to see what can be done. Extensive weight loss / dehydration can be harmful to both mom and baby and could be a reason for morning sickness, so the doctor could suggest medication to cure it. After an evaluation of your situation and health profile, let the doctor decide which medication will be most helpful in giving you morning sickness relief. The medications prescribed could be administered depending on the severity of the morning sickness and the medication: either orally, or intravenously.

Seek the Doctor

The doctor is necessary prescription if the nausea or vomiting persists into your fourth month, it is accompanied by fever or pain, and you cannot keep your food down whenever you eat something.

All of these preventive measures can go some way in getting you rid of morning sickness.
