Nutrition & Diet Therapy for better health

Importance of Nutrients

According to theories from biologists, the normal lifespan of human beings are 120 years old. However, 99.9% died of sickness, due to several reasons such as:

* Pollution
* Water Pollution
* Agricultural
* Lack of exercise
* Stress
* Imbalanced Nutrition
* Abnormal Lifestyle

In particular, the accumulation of excess fat, increase of blood acidity and deterioration of body's metabolism mechanism can cause several health problems. Intial problems experienced are fatigue, headache, insomnia, poor eating appetite, lower resistance against cold and flu and dizziness. These are mild and can get serious after a long period of time.

More serious health problems include constipation, fatigue and weakness, hormone imbalance, digestive problems, skin problems, anemia and obesity.

Finally, the onset of very serious health problems when the health condition is not improved on, these includes heart disease, nervous disorders, diabetes, cancer, stroke, arthritis, liver and kidney problems, high blood pressure and rheumatism.

What have all these got to do with our diet? Everything! The food we eat affects our body acidity, fats percentage and directly affects our health in many ways. Nutrients required in a healthy diet includes thhe basic four: water, protein, carbohydrates and fats. Besides these, micronutrients are also essential and required in smaller quantities. These includes vitamins and minerals.

10 Concepts of Nutrition & Diet Therapy

1. Human health is maintained by nutrition, not medicine

2. Selective eating of certain dishes is unhealthy. If the food is good for health, you should eat it.

3. Nutrition will affect a person health, happiness, mental thoughts, physical appearances, marriage and career.

4. Eat the most natural food available, over processed food contains little of its original nutritional values. For example: black sugar is healthier than white sugar, black bread (not burnt bread!) is more nutritious than white bread, and brown rice is better than white rice.

5. Lack of a certain nutrient will lead to deficiency in other nutrients. For example: insufficient cholic and lipid acid will result in the blood unable to absorb vitamins A, D, E and K. This, in turn, has further implications. Without vitamin D, calcium cannot be absorbed, and inadequate vitamin E cannot prevent the destruction of vitamin A, making it useless.

6. As all nutrients are mutually related, balanced nutrition in our body is important. Without magnesium, vitamin B6 cannot be absorbed in our body, and calcium will be lost in the urine. In infants body, potassium will be released from the cells that cause the cramp of large intestine.

7. Nutrients have balancing effects and this must be taken into consideration when planning a healthy diet. For example: excessive vitamin B6 in healthy people will result in stomatitis of vitamin B2 deficiency. On the other hand, excessive B2 will cause vitamin B deficiency. A symptom of this is when your tongue starts to hurt. It is advisable to not take any nutrient in high doses for a sustained period of time.

8. Stress is a direct contributing factor of under nourishment as it exhausts large amounts of the body nutrients. Stress is when a person is overworked, sustain injury, ill-tempered, becomes infected by virus or bacteria, suffers from exhaustion due to lack of sleep, lack of exercise, or a reaction to drugs or toxicants. Disease has 3 stages: warning, resistance and exhaustion. Adequate nutrition is required at the warninig stage.

9. Any disease should be treated by a qualified physician, but if your nutrition level is improved first, your health can be restored at a faster rate, and the nutrients can minimise the side effects of drugs.

10. The importance of medicine cannot be denied, and the rapid action of antibiotics and other drugs is vital in recovering from diseases. However, diet therapy prossess some effects that drugs cannot give, because it helps to strengthen the body during the treatment of the disease.
