By: Carina Coderis

Being overweight nowadays can be embarrassing to those who are, but being overweight is one of the health risks that the people all over the world are experiencing. According to statistics, almost one third of United States' population are overweight. Being overweight is measured up by using the body mass index, or BMI, and a value of 27.3 percent or more for women, and 27.8 percent or more for men would be considered such. Around 70 percent of the cases related to cardiovascular diseases are affiliated to being obese or overweight. Being obese can be very harmful for a person's health and can easily double up his or her blood pressure, affecting almost 25 percent of obese in the USA, statistics say. Initially, up to 300,000 people die from obesity in the US. Causes of obesity differs--heredity or family genes, lack of exercise, use of steroids or artificial female hormones for a long time, a certain Adrenal disease, and excessive food intake especially oil, sugar, and potatoes, that turns eventually to body fat can make people fat.
Preventing such from happening to them, people turn to weight loss pills. These are pills intended for a person who wants to slim down, decrease their weight, lessen their mass, or just to feel slim. There is a wide variety on weight loss pills, and one type would be made or composed of natural plants, making them herbal, more popularly known as herbal weight loss pills.

Basically, herbal weight loss pills are made from certain herbs or plants that supposedely removes fats, melts it, deposit it quickly, with little to no side effects whatsoever. According to some, herbs like “hoodia”, which is a cactus plant growing in Southern Africa, is considered as a new, natural, safe and effective weight loss supplement. Scientists have said to discover and isolate certain compounds of the plant to produce fast natural herbal weight loss. It is said that this is an all natural herbal appetite suppressant without harmful stimulants that causes harmful side effects, much like those of herbal weight loss pills before. It takes one to two pills an hour before each meal with a large glass of water for the best results. Another example of herbal weight loss pills are the Morslim-Z slimming capsules. These capsules are a mixture of herbal properties that tend to lower down cholesterol, cleans toxins from the blood, oxidises fat through the stool, regulates the libid metabolism. It is also said that it promotes good digestion, increase red blood cells, and has strong purifying and antioxidant qualities as well.

However, not all people see herbal weight loss pills as effective. There are suggested herbs like Ephedra or (ma huang), which is banned since the key ingredient poses a hazardous effect on a so called anti-obesity drug, “fen phen”. It was not been proven to be safe or effective, and contains ingredients that are linked to several injuries. Another would be HCA, short for hydroxycitric acid. This is an herbal extract found in other weight loss pills. It is distilled from a family of plants and its origins from India. This ingredient is used as to suppress eating and slows conversion of fat. In line with this, there have been scientific tests and showed that there was no effect in producing weight loss.

Some might think that herbal weight loss pills are effective, but just because it is “all natural”, it does mean that it has been approved or safe to take for weight loss. Just exercise, see your doctor, and eat right.
