Permanent weight loss efforts

By: william

It would be extremely surprising if you are not aware of the dramatic rise in obesity levels in Europe. Health issues have been plastered around the media non-stop for the better part of the last five years. The problem is that for the most part the message has been falling short of its mark. There are more obese people in 2004 then there were in 2003. The number of diet related health complications is growing and children are ballooning at a rate comparable to their adult counterparts. On the flip side, the health industry has been showing strong signs of growth, with one in four women and one in five men on a diet at any given time.

The World Health Organization has estimated that 1.2 billion people all over the world are obese. Approximately 135 million adults in the United States are overweight. That's 64.5 percent of the population. Of all U.S. adults, 4.7 percent or about 10 million are morbidly obese - so overweight that their health, and their lives, is dangerously compromised. This is because they are at increased risk of diseases such as hypertension, heart disease and stroke, Type 2 diabetes, gallbladder disease, chronic fatigue, asthma, sleep apnea, and some forms of cancer. That’s why people are trying against all odds to reduce weight and be fit. However those in the process of losing weight quickly realize that they have to be committed or loss the momentum forever

While times have been tight financially, people have been opening up their wallets in record numbers to by fitness products and gym memberships. So the bottom line is that while people are actively aware of health and fitness concerns, and are spending more then ever before on products and services to battle poor fitness.

If you are overweight and trying to lose weight slowly. Lose about one fourth to half kilogram a week until one reaches a healthy weight. This means that you lose atleast a healthy one kilogram per month. One should keep track of the progress. Ask for help from the doctor or a dietitician and be wary of misleading programs and ads that offer quick weight loss.

Fast weight loss could harm your health. Unless your doctor advises it, don’t look for programs that promise quick weight loss. Most overweight people should lose weight gradually. For safe and healthy weight loss, try not to exceed a rate of half kilogram per week. The faster you lose weight, the more likely you are to gain it back. Sometimes, people with serious health problems associated with obesity may have legitimate reasons for losing weight rapidly. If so, a physician's supervision is required.

Two common reasons for being overweight are eating too much and not being active enough. To be successful at losing weight, one needs to change their lifestyle and not just go on a diet. This requires cutting back on the number of calories you eat by eating smaller amounts of foods and choosing foods lower in calories. It also means being more physically active. Claims for diet products and programs that promise weight loss without effort are often phony.

One should always be suspicious about products promising long-term or permanent weight loss. To lose weight and keep it off, one must change how they eat and how much they exercise.

There are no 'secrets' or miracle weight-loss programs. To lose weight, you have to reduce your intake of calories and increase your physical activity. There is no magic pill for obesity or weight loss. Just because someone achieved good results with a particular weight loss program doesn't mean that you'll get the same results too. Even if the claims are true, someone else’s success may have little relation to your own chances of success.

To be successful at losing weight, you may need to change what you eat and your eating habits. This may require cutting back on the number of calories you eat by eating smaller amounts of foods and choosing foods lower in calories. You may need to avoid certain types of foods.

To lose weight and to maintain a healthy weight after weight loss, many adults are likely need to do more than 30 minutes of moderate to intensive physical activity daily. Physical activity decreases the risk of dying from coronary heart disease and reduces the risk of developing diabetes, hypertension, and certain cancers. Research shows that daily physical activity may help a person lose weight by partially lessening the slow-down in metabolism that occurs during weight loss.
