Setting Goals Is The First Key To Achieving Them

By: Mike McMahon

There are those who are bound by laws and rules, yet success is still distant for them. On the other hand, there are those who appear to be easy going people but they are successful.

Is there some magic to being successful? Not really, success takes work and determination. Do you have what it takes? Or would you prefer to take the easy way out instead of achieving success? Don't worry. Anyone can learn the art of setting goals and change their life.

What does setting goals represent by the way? These are actually representations of your visions about you and your future. Goals should be achievable and realistic.

When setting goals keeping them realistic makes your chances of achieving them much more likely. But it takes more than just setting goals you must take action. Otherwise success would be something you could have without any effort and that isn't how it works.

The secret to achieving your goals is to be, do and act according your goals. It's the very act of being who you want to be that ensures your success. That success requires work and not just setting goals. You have to put forth the effort that it takes to get where you want to be.

1. Greatly improve your ability to hit your goals by having measurable objectives. You should also have some optional activities that can help move you towards you goals as well. The key to success when setting goals is making them measurable and believable

2. Be brave and push past your comfort zone. Take the time to strategically plan your steps to reach your goal and don't worry about the fact that you might be a little uncomfortable. Assess your options and work around the obstacles with the idea that there is always a way when you are setting your goals.

3. Act in accordance to your goals. A proper mindset is essential for achieving your goals. Go the extra mile. Take risks but don't compromise your safety. Taking risks means that you are ready to learn new things and challenges that will help you in the long run. Taking risks is how we grow and it should be part of setting goals.

Setting goals isn't just for the unsuccessful. Everyone benefits when they take the time to put a plan in place and then the take steps to work towards that plan. Successful people will be highly successful if up till now they have just enjoyed natural success and have never before taken the time to plan it.

Setting goals means that you are acknowledging your limitations and you are ready to work your way up towards success, professionally or personally. It is for this reason why objective goals matter.

Keep in mind that there are goals that are so big you simply can't do them alone so be sure to get help when you need it. You may a times find yourself wanting to give up because it just seems like things aren't working. Remember your commitment to making it was part of the setting goals process and never give up.

For the really hard goals that you've set for yourself sometimes you may feel like quitting. Take the time to think through who you know that would be supportive and could help you work through your challenges so that you can still achieve you goal. Brainstorm together for solutions you may not have thought of when you were setting your goals to begin with.

Keep in mind that setting goals is in your best interest. Never give up and be sure to stay focused. Prioritize your daily activities to ensure reaching your goals. Stay positive and think of your goals as having already achieved them. Think of it like this if you want to live in a certain neighborhood or house then everyday spend some time visualizing yourself as already being there.

Whether your goal is personal, educational or professional it's a lot easier to achieve it if you plan activities that relate to your goal. As you achieve success it will become easier setting goals since you will have learned that the process works. Each success makes the next success that much easier to reach. The only difference between a successful individual and a failure is that the failure stopped before they reached success.
