Take Responsibility For Your Own Health

By: Gabriel Adams

While it is a good idea to get regular checkups and to talk to your doctor when you have concerns, your health is your own responsibility. The younger you are in life when you decide to take this responsibility seriously, the better you will feel as you get older. Engaging in activities that are detrimental to your health such as smoking, excessive dieting, eating an unhealthy combination of foods, and using recreational drugs will all have a negative effect on your overall health.

One area that too many people don’t focus enough on is getting the exercise they need. It is a good idea to try to engage in it at least 30 minutes each day. Now before you say you are too busy, do you have 30 minutes a day to talk on the phone? To watch TV? If so then use that time to exercise. You can ask your friend to join you on a walk instead of talking to them on the phone.

Too many people have the misconception that exercising has to be something you dread. The reality is the more you like what you engage in, the more motivated you will be to do it. If you love sports then play a game of basketball to get your exercise for the day. Be creative and just get yourself moving. It will increase your energy level, reduce stress, and help you improve your overall health.

Another area you need to be concerned with is your diet. If you are on a fast food schedule several times a week because of your busy schedule you will increase your risk of heart disease, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure. Take the time to plan your meals so you get a well balanced selection of foods that are good for you.
