Take a Trip Down The River Walk in

By: Tymon Hytem

By: Allen Shaw
Texas may be better known for its redneck reputation and wide open spaces than the "romantic getaways" so prevalent in Europe and the East Coast. But there is at least one romantic getaway in the Lone Star State that could hold it's own against the waterway canals of Venice and the reputation of Paris, France as the "City of Love"…the San Antonio Riverwalk.
Found across the street from the Alamo, the Riverwalk connects several major San Antonio attractions, including the Alamo Plaza and the River Center. Also included on the network of walkways located one-story beneath street level are several shops, theaters and restaurants. And of course, there is the river itself. Tourists and San Antonionites alike regularly enjoy the Venice-style boats making trips down the river.
San Antonio Riverwalk Cuisine
There's nothing better in Texas than the cuisine. And the San Antonio Riverwalk is home to some of the best. With more than 25 restaurants along the length of the walk, there is something there for everybody. From Tex-Mex to some of the best Italian food west of New York, The Riverwalk "IS FINE DINING!"
If you are interested in the comfort and convenience of restaurants found in every city in North America, you have your choice of Dick's Last Resort, Joe's Crab Shack and Texas Land and Cattle. Or if you are into originality and taking a chance, there's nothing better than the Tex-Mex cuisine that can be found at Rio Cantina. The best part of Rio Rio Cantina isn't the Tex-Mex cuisine however…it's the portions. Only in Texas could you get a portion of Tex-Mex food that has been known to make the diners vocally gasp at the sheer size.
For even more samples of the official state cuisine, some of San Antonio's best Tex-Mex can be found just a few short miles off the Riverwalk at Mi Tierra Café and Bakery. Open 24 hours, Mi Tierra Café boasts "The Best Tex-Mex cuisine for over 50 years!" Rich with Mexican culture and mixed with just the right amount of "Texas" thrown in for flavor, Mi Tierra Café and Bakery is not to be missed.
Dining "ON" the River
Visitors to San Antonio's Riverwalk can even dine "ON" the river in one of the many dining boats. Reservations can be made at any one of 19 restaurants, including Biga on the Banks, Casa Rio, Mexican Manhattan and County Line BBQ.
So forget about Venice. Forget about New York. Forget about Paris. One of the most romantic getaway spots in the United States can be found down in the Lone Star State.
