Ten Things Your Doctor Should Have Told You About Magnetic Therapy

By: whyamirich

If you've been considering magnetic therapy jewelry for any kind of pain relief, you may be confused about your choices. You may also not be convinced that applying magnetic therapy for pain will work for you.

The application of magnetic therapy for pain and other ailments world wide says a lot about it. In fact, in the year 2000 it was estimated that over 120 million people use magnets. Even so, you may be underinformed about this useful form of therapy.

Below are Ten things you may not have heard about using magnets.

1. Dr. Ron Lawrence, the president of the North American Academy of Magnetic Therapy used magnets to treat carpal tunnel syndrome. In a 22 patient study, 91 percent of the patients showed improvement after using magnets for carpal tunnel syndrome.

2. Studies have shown that magnetic pulses can relieve severe depression. Researchers in this field say that the pulses activate cells deep within the brain.

3. It is a known fact that magnetic fields do affect living tissue, and therefore our bodies and our health. Pulsed magnetic fields are used to treat certain types of mental illness, and Yale researchers have shown that this treatment reduces the phantom "voices" schizophrenics hear in their minds.

4. In a 1997 study of magnets and severe post-polio pain, researchers at the University of Houston tested 50 patients. The study was considered a success. Half of the participants were given sham magnets, and half used static magnets at the site of their pain. The real magnets cut the pain by more than half, but the sham ones had little effect.

5. Pulsed magnetic fields affect bones and tissue, and they are often used to treat slow-healing fractures, knee pain and neck pain.

6. Between 2001 and 2003, a study of 194 women and men suffering from osteoarthritis of the hip or knee showed that wearing magnetic bracelets reduced their pain.

7. Magnetic therapy experts typically agree that magnets need to be worn 24 hours per day, 7 days per week for at least 3 to 6 weeks before relief is felt.

8. Japanese studies show that static magnets help to relieve pain in the neck and shoulders. One out of eight Japanese has a magnetic bed.

9. At New York Medical College in 1999, researchers tested the pain relief capabilities of magnets. They found that 9 of 10 diabetic patients with nerve pain were successfully treated for pain with magnets. Since only three out of 10 with sham magnets experienced relief, the researchers recommended magnets for all patients experiencing nerve pain.

10. As effective as morphine? That's what neurologist Dr. Robert Holcombe said after using magnets for many years on patients with back pain.

Studies from around the world have shown that magnetic therapy can help with many conditions, including: neck, shoulder, and back pain, peripheral neuropathy, menstrual pain, and even reducing the side effects of chemotherapy.

Still, as a method of self-treatment, it remains that using magnetic therapy for pain relief is the most popular application.|As a number of medical doctors have publically noted, the popularity of magnets in certain cultures after many generations of usage is a testament to their effectiveness.|So, too, is the world wide volume of sales of magnetic products.
