The Fear of Excessive Blushing

By: Gary Ambrosh

Most individuals in society today suffer from some sort of phobia. That is to say, they have a seemingly unfounded terror of something. There is a complete list of fears that various individuals suffer from, even though a handful of them might be extremely obscure. One that falls into the latter category is Erythrophobia, or the fear of excessive blushing.

The fear of excessive blushing is relatively a widespread worry. Indeed, it is much more common than you can imagine. Most individuals in the world tend to blush owing to many psychological and physical reasons. By and large, individuals blush either owing to a psychological sensitivity to the personal opinions that others have of you or owing to an overactive nervous system.

Erythrophobia, or the fear of excessive blushing, begins owing to a lack of confidence and is above all common in individuals who are quick to blush and who have a tendency to over-value other's judgment of oneself. These type of individuals become very worried with the way they look when they blush, instead of what caused it to begin with.

People having Erythrophobia or the fear of excessive blushing are dreadfully ill at ease with the unexpected reddening of their cheeks when they blush. They attempt to struggle against the reddening and totally stop it from taking place.

Similar to how someone with bad acne becomes dreadfully conscious about how they look, someone with Erythrophobia or the worry of excessive blushing becomes preoccupied with the colour of the skin on their face. Trying not to blush turns into a great psychological pre-occupation with him or her. They worry about excessive blushing at an irrational level.

Even though this may seem unfounded to those who do not suffer from the worry of excessive blushing, to those who suffer from it, it makes total sense and can have an affect on each and every aspect of their lives. It can have an affect on the dealings that they have with their family and friends as well as ruin their career and domestic lives. There is no element of their lives that is left unaffected by their worry.

If a person who is suffering from the fear of excessive blushing does not look for help soon enough, it can cause not only anxiety and depression, but other social phobias as well. It can even lead to feelings of suicide. Regrettably, no one can wholly identify with what the sufferer is going through unless they too have gone through the same problem. You can help a person get the better of his or her fear of excessive blushing by ignoring the blush when he or she blushes. In this way, he or she might get used to blushing.
