The Presidents Fitness Challenge

By: Kadence Buchanan

In an effort to keep the citizens of the United States in shape and healthy, the presidential fitness challenge has been created. As an effort to enthuse both children and adults alike in matters of exercise, in this article, we'll be discussing in-detail the president's plan for fitness success.

When it comes to the fitness of children, the presidential fitness challenge has a wide scope. It urges children to perform the following steps: choose an activity, get active, track your activity, and order your award. Children are encouraged to take part in any physical activity that they desire, including such low-intensity workouts as long walks or highly intense sports, such as basketball. The goal that the president's challenge has set is for children to exercise 60 minutes per day for at least 5 days of the week for at least 6 weeks. For those who cannot fully dedicate for a six-week span, however, 8 weeks are allowed in which to complete the required 6. Next, children are encouraged to go online and record their exercise, no matter how mundane it may be. Jogging for 5 minutes constitutes enough of a reason to record the exercise. If children cannot make it to the computer every day, they can file back-logs for their activities for as far back as 14 days prior. Once the goal is reached, the activity log will inform the child that they have met the needs for the presidential fitness award. Pedometers can also be used to monitor exercise progress; for girls aged 6 to 17, 11,000 steps per day should be achieved. Boys aged 6 to 17 should count approximately 13,000 steps per day. If the child wishes to continue the exercise program after receiving the award, they can continue to log their progress and move on to the next challenge if they desire to do so. The presidential champions program gives merit to those who maintain the active lifestyle encouraged by the fitness program.

Adults can participate in the program, as well. Their goals are similar to children's goals, but there are a few changes that need to be addressed. A mere thirty minutes of exercise per day is permissible for adults, and the same frequency of workouts should be maintained. When measuring steps on a pedometer, adults should shoot for at least 8,500 steps per day to ensure good fitness. The presidential fitness challenge represents a good chance for those who want to be fit to help change their habits and be rewarded. You can sign up today at http://www.presidentschallenge.org .
