The Treatment Options Available For Hair Loss

By: Milton Felton

Hair loss can be quite common in males as they grow older; however there are times when excessive hair loss occurs. If you area male, you can tell if you are losing hair naturally or not, by the appearance of a receding hairline, and your hair gets thinner. If you are losing an excess amount of hair without either of those things occurring, your hair loss is probably not normal!

So what are the treatments available for unnatural hair loss? Well it all depends upon the cause. If it is hormonal, such as if it occurs after child birth or during the menopause, it will more than likely return to normal after a few months. If the hair loss is caused by a major illness or surgery, the hair will grow back by itself after the treatment has finished.

If the problem is down to age or it is hereditary, there is a medication called Rogaine can be helpful for both males and females. However, the results are not quick and you should expect to have to wait around six months before you do see the results. Some men also find Propecia helpful although it can decrease the sex drive. The thing you should note with either the Rogaine or the Propecia medications is that as soon as you stop taking them, the baldness will return.

If you are looking for a permanent solution, surgery may be your answer. Hair transplants can be extremely painful and expensive, however they do work. A physician performs the surgery and it involves growing hair from one part of the head to another.

There are also many herbal remedies said to help with hair growth. These include rinsing your hair with apple cider vinegar and sage tea, and then applying Catmint or Chamomile infusions as a final rinse. This is said to both aid in hair growth and stop any itchiness of the scalp.

The cheapest way to cover up your hair loss is to either have a hair cut, or to wear a wig or a hair piece. This is a very common option for most people and it really is that much cheaper!

Overall if you are worried, it is always best to talk to your doctor about the possible causes of your hair loss. They will give you a list of things which you can do to help with the loss and they can determine whether the loss is down to serious or natural causes.
