Thrush Treatment: A Few Important Tips

By: Lesley Scott

Depending on the severity of your vaginal thrush symptoms you will need different thrush treatment. In case the symptoms are mild then it the recommended treatment will involve using antifungal medicines that need to be taken for between one and three days. In case the symptoms are severer then it may be recommended that you prolong the treatment for a little longer.
However, thrush treatment for both women and men can be quite simple and is only required if the symptoms show up. Typically, it can involve having to use antifungal creams and pills or pessaries or even a combination of them all. For more guidance about what you should do it is a good idea to consult a doctor or even a nurse who will show you what you need to do. However, mostly your will be asked to apply the cream in your genitals while women may need to take pessaries that are tablets that look like almonds and which need to be inserted deep into the vagina.

Antifungal treatments can easily be purchased from pharmacies and when you use this option it means that you want to treat yourself instead of having a doctor do it for you. For more advice as to how best to use these treatments you can even ask the pharmacist who will also be able to provide useful guidance.
It is important that you realize that to get desired results you have to ensure following the treatment till its logical conclusion and to do the treatment exactly according to the directions of use. Even if symptoms disappear earlier than the full course, you must still continue with the treatment to ensure a better outcome.

It is heartening to note that treatments such as antifungal creams and pessaries as well as pills will all work very effectively and as long as you follow instructions properly you should find that these treatments will help provide welcome relief. In fact, with these treatments you will notice that it only takes a few days for the symptoms to disappear.
Sometimes, it may become necessary to foreswear having sex during the thrush treatment as this helps in removing thrush symptoms more effectively. In case the first treatment does not work well for you then you may need to undergo a test or you may have to try another treatment.

The good news is that you also do not need to be tested in order to know whether the symptoms are there or have been done away with.
