What Is The Best Gentle Cleanse For Your Colon?

By: Kirsten Whittaker

With the rise in number of people who have a digestive disorder, and the increased number of people being diagnosed with colon cancer on a yearly basis, it is not surprising that more people want to try out a colon cleanse for themselves. So, where should you start? I suggest a gentle cleanse for the colon initially to gauge the results that you have.

There are a number of different approaches to cleansing the colon, and each has its own process. Some of them tend to be carried out by a trained individual at a spa or clinic, and others can be carried out at home.

Let’s have a look at some of the options, considering both the good and the bad:

Colonic hydrotherapy (colonic irrigation) – This procedure is normally carried out at a spa or clinic and it is practised by trained staff. The process involves the insertion of a tube into the colon and liquid is then used to flush away any waste material that may be present.

It is a painless process, and one session can clean the whole colon.

The issue that people sometimes struggle to be happy about with this procedure is that it requires a third party to be involved in the process with you. Also, it is worth checking the price to ensure that a treatment is within your budget

Taking Enemas – Enemas have been used for thousands of years as an approach to treating digestive disorders. In involves inserting a tube into the rectum and allowing fluid to enter the rectum and colon. This then softens waste that may be present in the lower colon and stimulates bowel movement.

There are a number of different enema kits that can be used at home. They are most likely to be sold at a pharmacy near you.

The downsides of the enema are that it can only tend to bath the rectum and a small part of the colon, and it can be a little awkward to set up for someone new to colon cleansing.

Taking an enema is gentle and considered safe, although it can take some time to get used to it, and initially there may be stomach cramping until you get used to them.

Herbal preparations and colon cleansing kits – There is a huge variety of these on the market and so discussing each one if not feasible in this article. However, they all tend to work in a similar way, by inducing a laxative affect and attempting to “scrub” the bowels of any lingering waste material.

Some also contain ingredients that are intended to soothe the bowels and help with the healing process.

Many of these kits also encourage changes in diet, Which leads us on to.

Dietary changes – The main cause for colon health problems is likely to be the diet that a person has been following to date. So, it stands to reason that changing the diet can help the body recover.

There tends to be too little roughage in most people’s diet in the “industrialised” nations, and far too much food that is high in fat and which has been overly processed.

Increasing the intake of fiber, and reducing the foods that are high in fat and have little nutritional value (like most processed foods) can help the colon regain health naturally.

Initially, aim to eliminate all foods that do not contain some form of fiber. Do this for a few days to increase bowel movements.

Also, increase the volume of water consumed. This will help to flush out the toxins in the system and ease the removal of waste.

The most gentle cleanse for your colon is to follow a high fber, low fat diet. This will slowly bring the colon back to normal health, although it will take some time.
